Indian Hockey Debacle

I am not a follower of Hockey or any other sport/game other than Cricket and Chess. But I follow every event that India participates in. As an Indian I feel enraged when Indian teams fail badly and bring shame and disgrace to India.
I feel sorry for the players who play for Indian team. Because even though there isn't much money involved in sports other than cricket, they try to put in their best efforts. After the end of their careers, they barely manage to make a living.
While India has done quite well in sports where any bureaucracy is not involved, it has done very poorly in every sport that is run by bureaucrats.

It is really sad to see the indifferent attitude of officials running the sports. The facility provided to the players when compared with other countries is laughable. Most of this sport organizations are headed by politicians who used the funds to fill in their swiss accounts. They absolutely have no intentions in improving the condition of the sport.

Hockey is not just any other game. It is the national game of India. And any lapse in its management should be considered equivalent to a lapse in performing a duty towards our country. And severe actions should be taken against the people running it. K.P.S Gill has failed to do a duty towards country. K.P.S Gill should take the moral responsibility and resign from the post. But his skin is thick. Whom is he accountable to? Indian hockey team is not his personal team. It is the team of the Indians. He is accountable to India. He is an ass-hole who is bringing disgrace to this country.

Even the Indian government has a step-motherly attitude towards hockey. We see politicians slowly creeping into cricket boards. But no politician is interested in betterment of Hockey or any other game.Because there is very little money involved in it. Politician is where the money is. Every politician has the same attributes, even though they belong to different political parties. Anyway, they keep on switching parties. They changes their colors even faster than chameleons.

Who is responsible for this sorry state of affairs in hockey?
  • KPS Gill. He is there in the top seat for last 14 years. But he has been instrumental in breaking the game rather than in making the game.
  • Politicians. For being selfish--as usual-- and ignoring hockey.
  • We Indians. For not following up and and pressurizing the board and the politicians. We make a noise every time we see Indians failing badly. And then we forget every thing after some days and get back into our daily lives.
How can things change in hockey?

Well I am confident that nothing is going to change inIndian Hockey federation in the near future. Some private body should come up and start a hockey board. And start their own hockey team.A request to the big Indian corporates to come up and take this step. You can give back to the country in this way.
